Iran wins India at World Junior Table Tennis C’ships

TEHRAN, Dec. 04 (MNA) – The Iranian boys’ team defeated India and finished 7th at the 2018 World Junior Table Tennis Championships, underway in Australia.

The Iranian team, represented by Amin Ahmadian, Amirreza Abbasi, and Hamid Shams gained a narrow 3-2 victory over India in 7-8 places match on Tuesday.

Despite it was the first time that Iran participated in the team event of World Junior Table Tennis Championships, the team managed to advance to quarterfinals. Iran suffered a 0-3 loss to France in this stage on Monday and lost the chance for collecting a medal.

Earlier on Tuesday, the team lost the encounter to USA 1-3 and failed to qualify for 5-6 place match.

China and Japan outplayed France and Chinese Taipei respectively in the semifinal and took berth to the final encounter.

The 16th edition of World Junior Table Tennis Championships kicked off on December 2 in Bendigo, Australia. The 7-day event comprises categories of boys’ team, girls’ team, boys’ singles, girls’ singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ doubles, and mixed doubles.
